JOIN US IN WORSHIP
The community of St. James gathers throughout the year to celebrate the saving work of Jesus Christ.
Sundays
   9:30am  11:30am   in the church
Weekdays
7:30am   in the Parish House next door to the church

Sundays
To commemorate the Resurrection of the Lord, we gather on Sundays at 9:30am and 11:30am.

Fr. Edward Linton, OSB, presides over our worship. Fr. Edward is a Benedictine of the Archabbey of St. Meinrad, IN. We are blessed to have musicians who lead us in song at both masses. They minister under the guidance of Sr. Kathy Sherman, CSJ. Sr. Kathy has focused her talents in pastoral music for many years. Many of her compositions have been recorded and are available for purchase. On the third Sunday of each month, parishioners make an extra effort to bring along non-perishable items for the food pantry.

Weekdays
Throughout the week a small group meets for mass in the Parish House at 7:30am. Enter through the front door.

Holy Days
Mass times are typically published in the parish bulletin prior to the holy day. You can also call the parish office at 312-842-1919.

Need a ride?
On Sundays and Christmas the St. James bus makes a number of stops in the neighborhood. Contact the parish office at 312-842-1919 to schedule a ride to Mass.

JOIN US IN MINISTRY
Ministry is service to others that arises out of thanksgiving for what God has done for us. In addition to the service they provide in their private lives, the parishioners of St. James join together in ministry to the community. You can learn more about these ministries by reading the following sections: service, worship, religious education, stewardship, parish life. To join in these ministires, contact the person whose name is listed or talk to a parishioner who is currently involved.

Feeling called to start a ministry here at St. James? Chat with the appropriate staff member or with the pastor, Fr. Edward Linton.

JOIN US AS A MEMBER OF ST. JAMES
The living Church at St. James is built from many different stones, but it is not complete without you. We invite you to join us. Help us witness to the grace of Jesus in the Near South Side.

Consider registering with the parish as a member. Registering as a member of St. James assists the parish in its relationship with the Archdiocese of Chicago. It helps the parish staff with planning and communication. And it ensures the Christian of a sacramental home - a place for baptisms, weddings, funerals and other significant events in life. To register, complete this online registration form or contact Deacon Terry Collins at the parish office (312-847-1919 ext 203).

Non-Catholic Christians and non-Christians
You are welcome at St. James. We believe that all baptized Christians are baptized into the death and resurrection of our one Lord. And we believe that the Holy Spirit of God draws individuals to holiness in various ways through different cultures and religions.

Joining us in worship or in service to the community does not require a commitment to becoming a Catholic Christian. However, if you wish to become a Catholic, please contact Fran Serpe (312-847-1919 ext 207). She will explain the process that is right for you.

JOIN US WITH YOUR FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS
St. James ministers in an area of Chicago in which the median household income is $30,625 (2000 Census for 60616). As generous as parishioners are, maintaining the 150 year old church and operating budget of a small parish staff is a continual struggle.

St. James is the third oldest church in the Archdiocese of Chicago. It has a proud history in the Near South Side. Many of the area's parishes were formed with the help of St. James. Its age, the fire of 1972, and the economic challenges of the surrounding neighborhoods have made it difficult to maintain it in the manner fitting the mother church of the Near South Side.

Projects, both major and minor, are always in the works at St. James. Some of these focus on the mission and ministry of the church, and others focus on the facilities and furnishings of the church. Financial contributions are always welcomed. Contact Christine Pao (312-847-1919 ext 205) to explore how you can join us in maintaining the work of St. James, or visit the stewardship formation page to see what projects are in progress.
