The Spiritual Life Cluster works to
serve the needs of our culturally diverse worshipping community
through the provision of programs and activities to help deepen
our personal relationship with God as well as to enhance the
spiritual growth of the parish. The following organizations
are members of the Spiritual Life Cluster: Lectors, In Search
of Faith - Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults,
Liturgy Committe, Choir (Music Ministry), Ushers and Greeters, and Communion
Ministers.
Music Ministry (Choirs)
St. Augustine said, "Those who sing pray twice." Here
at St. James, the Music Ministry inspires constant prayer
within the assembled worshipping communty. It is also a rich
expression of the spiritual, racial, and cultural diversity
which exists within the congregation - cantors, traditional
and contemporary hymns as well as gospel music are all vital
components of the music ministry of St. James. The goal of
the music ministry is for a "full, conscious and active
participation of the community so that the liturgy truly becomes
the source and summit of our lives."
Eucharistic Ministers
The Catholic church allows men and women to assist priests in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ in
at mass, as well as in homes, hospitals and nursing facilities.
Participating in the life of the parish as a eucharistic minister
requires training that is made available on a regular basis.
Lectors
The Holy Scriptures are brought to life by the readings of
the day proclaimed by lectors at each mass. High school-aged
youth are encouraged to participate. All lectors receive training
and are invited to attend additional workshops to enhance
their skills.
Ushers and Greeters
Ushers are friendly and helpful greeters who provide directions,
information and assistance to visitors and members of St. James.
They also help prepare and distribute the bulletin and pass
the collection basket. As the first parishioner whom visitors
encounter, ushers are enthusiastic in welcoming newcomers
into our midst.
Liturgy Committee
The Liturgy Committee is responsible for liturgical season-related
feasts at St. James. The committee meets monthly for readings,
discussions, reflections and prayers based on the church's
liturgical calendar.
